Lenten Project!!!!

This year we are doing a 'Lenten Project'. This Easter we are raising money for the charity 'Reaching the Unreached' (RTU). This charity was founded in 1975 by Brother James Kimpton in rural Tamil Nadu.Initially it provided foster family care for orphaned children in India. Now 'Reaching the Unreached' serves the poor of its area in many different ways including providing a secure and loving enviroment for over 700 children through its children's villages.
One of their projects is to build houses in villages in India. £750 buys a solid cement block house with a cooking oven, bathingplace, electricity, and basic household essentials.
Our aim is to raise £1500 to build 2 houses.
Foundation Stage are selling cakes which have been huge success in the past.
We are also holding a Fun Run/Walk for Foundation and Key Stage 1 on Monday 11 April and Key stage 2 on Tuesday 12 April.

Skip-Hop

Skip-Hop is a children's programe that helps children become healthier by skipping at school. In our school every child has a chance to do the workshops, and every year group does the activity on a different day of the week. It has been very exciting for many people who did not know how to skip before, but some of our school pupils are very good at this sport as they proved in our school assembly on Friday.

SATS

SATS are looming and everyone is worried about them. SATS, if you didn't know, are tests that yr 6s do about 3 months before we go to secondary school to show the teachers at our new schools our standard of working progress each year. We have done our 'mock tests' just to get us ready. We got good scores; 80% of yr 6 got level 4 and above and 20% got 4 and under. Level 4 and 5 is about right for this year group

Lent

The word 'Lent' comes fromthe Anglo Saxon word meaning Spring or Springtime. Lent is a very special time in church year and lasts for forty days, just like Jesus spent in the wilderness where he went to fast and pray. The Sundays in Lent are not counted in the 40 days because they are always a day of worship. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and will end 40 days later on Holy Thursday, which is sometimes called Maundy Thursday. Above all, Lent is the time we spend preparing ourselves for Easter.

My worries about Sats and secondary school

On May 9th we are going to have a test called sats and I am a bit nervous about it but I think I am going to get a good level in the test. then we are going to get our results and that level goes to secondry school. On September we are going to our new school. I hope I could make lots of friends and could get a good teacher.

lets go green for ghana!!!

It's Thursday and we are dressing green for Ghana to raising money for a school in Accra because it is St. Patrick's day. We had to bring in a pound if we dressed up because we want to help children that aren't as lucky as us.

Science Engineering

I went to Stanick Lakes on monday and made wind turbines and we also learnt about renewable energy and non -renewable energy . Such as, non renewable energy is oil, petrol and coal but the renewable energys are wind, water etc.

Mock SATS

Our SATS are in May so we know what the real things are going to feel like but they are a bit more tense. So far we have done all our Maths and English tests and we got good marks. We had to choose someone from school to win the simply the best award and then we had to write a guide about how to look after a made up pet called a Miptor, for Maths we did a tests with calculator and without a calculator. Can't wait until the real ones are over.

St Patricks Day

On 17th March it was St Patricks Day. Year six had to dress up in green because they were raising money for Ghana for the school in Accra. We had to bring one pound if we dressed up, some people didn't dress up so they didn't donate money for Ghana. We want to help children that don't have anyone to look after them.

Letters From the Children in Accra,Ghana

As you know year 6 have been selling cereals to raise money for the school in Accra, Ghana.

In return, as a thank you, some of the children wrote letters to us, telling us what they like to play, what they like to eat and who their friends are.

Year 6K had a photo taken to show the children who we are.

We are also going to try and raise more money by making fruit salads and selling them for 20p. Hopefully this will help build another floor for a classroom.

Gymnastics

In St Gregory's Primary, 9 children were picked to do gymnastics at Thomas Becket sports school. We had 3 different activities with Thorplands Primary, Isaac won the 1st activity and Misha, Ellice and I won the 2nd activity. Thorplands and St Gregorys got certificates and the winners got individual certificates !

Moc SATS

6C following 6K are getting ready for the Mock SATs. Revising and learning on different things they're going to do in their real SATs. Mock SATs are practise SATs, they are just to see where the child is in his level and what he/she needs to achieve. For all the kids who are reading this there is NO need to panic - it's pretend SATs but keep on revising and listening in school!

Our Secondary Schools

Year 6 have got their result of which schools they are going to. Some children are going NSG, Thomas Becket, Moulton, NSB and Weston Favell. We are all excited about which school we are going to. I feel pleased because i am going to NSG, and some of my friends are going to. I feel a little bit sad because my little brother will be alone and he will miss me. By AS

Plastic footballs

Year six were making footballs out of plastic bags. This lady came to us to talk about recycling, her name was Heather. After we made the footballs we tested them out to see which was the best one, we were put in to groups of 4 or 5. We had to kick the footballs 6 times. Only one person won out of each group the winners were Timi, Amanda, Harshita and Jakub.

It is Fairtrade fortnight for the next two weeks and year 6 are going to try to beat the world record for making the longest row of bunting. The world record to beat is 4,350 and everyone has to decorate a triangle shape piece of bunting with writing and a picture. I will be so proud if we break the world record for the longest piece of bunting. LETS DO THIS ST.GREGS!!
