Curve Stitching

Hey Everyone! In Maths we are doing stitching. First we drew the designs on paper. Then we got card and drew out the design and put holes through with a compass.

Year 6 going secondary school

My opinion about the hardest part of leaving your primary school to go to your secondary school is from being the highest year of the school to the lowest year of the school which is pretty scary when your used to being on top of the school to knowing there are children older than you in your new school. That could be very frustrating. jca

Take 1 and Action!

This week year 6 have been reading, writing and acting out the play, Macbeth. It's a tragedy play, set in Scotland. About a man who is noble, strong and brave. Driven by his wife, who became mad with power, he became evil, greedy and cold hearted.

Macbeth, as we learned, was a good man, then became to believe in the witches prophesy and a serial killer! After writing about the summary of Macbeth and lady Macbeth ( his wife) ,we moved on to acting ( the best part). I became one of the witches ( watch out!) and i know the word are old fashion but what the heck! This is what i had to say " Any one born from a woman shall not harm Macbeth" ( I thought everyone's born from a woman!) Then when I found out Macduff killed Macbeth it got all complicate but then I understood. (Macduff ain't born from no woman)

In this play I say there we lots of day dreaming, daggers in the air, a ghost and blood on your hands?

Leaving St Gregory's

Soon Year six will be leaving St Gregory's as they will be moving up to secondary school. Some will be going to NSB, NSG, Lings Academy, Moulton, Thomas Becket and Kingsthorpe. A couple of people are excited whilst others are sad to leave, but also quite excited as they are starting a new adventure! The most scary thing I think that everyone is a bit scared of is being the oldest children in the school - turning into the youngest children in the school!

MHB

SAT's and moving school

Now Sat's is finally over (yes!!!) school is not as stressful, because we don't get as much homework as before. The science test B was very difficult compared to test A. I thought the maths test was not that difficult but towards the end it was harder.
In school we had to make a paper pulp with torn newspaper also put water in it. Then we put newspaper on a plastic small cereal type bowl. We used newspaper, water, a bucket and a bowl to do this. I found it fun when we made it however I did get wet at some times.
In I.C.T we are starting to use Skype and I find it quite fun. I co-incidentally went on my dad's Skype yesterday to talk to my cousins in London for 5 minutes. In the mornings year 6 are not allowed to go RM maths because year 5 are doing it.
I now know what school I'm going to and it's ... Thomas Becket. My mum and dad wanted me to go to NBS but I did not get in unfortunately. I feel nervous that I'm moving school but happy as well so I have mixed feeling. I'd just have to wait and see.

Internet safety

In school, for our I.C.T lesson we get to do skype. It is fun. Even though we all have a laugh it is part of our internet safety programme. We get to do web cam and talk on the microphone. It is really great fun, but we should be really safe about what we do on the internet because people could want to know our details and they would want to meet up with us. This is a really bad thing because if we meet up with them something really bad could happen!

SO! ... We should be S.M.A.R.T:

  1. Safe - not giving out your personal details.

  2. Meeting - people you have contacted could be very dangerous.

  3. Accept - people you do not know could get you into serious trouble.

  4. Reliable - people could be lying about what they are saying and their age and details.

  5. Tell - always tell someone you know and that you can rely on.
These are the internet safety rules. Also never communicate with a stranger you do not know.

Paper Bowls

During a period of time, Year 6 have been making bowls with newspaper. This all started when we had to rip and tear pieces of newspaper and put them in a bucket in warm water to make it go mushy. Over the last few days the newspaper has been getting soggy. Although it looked disgusting it was fun!

After that, we had to put the newspaper on the bowls and cover it completely. A lady came in to help us and I enjoyed it. I was a bit worried because the newspaper was TOO soggy and it wouldnt stick to the bowl. I covered my bowl with the newspaper and lifted it up, but then afterwards it collapsed when i had put it back down again. Luckily it didn't take me long to re-do it.

We then took the bowls outside to let them dry quicker, it took a really long time and I had to be patient. My bowl is completely dried now. All I have to do is paint it my own colour and take it home to use when it is finally finished and dry!

Making Paper Bowls

Hi Everyone! We are making paper bowls this week. It has been so much fun. First we got as much newspaper as we can get. Then we put them in buckets and put water in. The newspaper went into a pulp. We then got clingfilm and covered the bowl with it. After we stuck the newspaper on top of the clingfilm. We left the bowls to dry. Later on in the week we are going to be painting them any colour we want. How fun!

It's the end of our St Greg's journey

SATS ARE FINISHED!

Going to Moulton, NSB, NSG, Thomas Becket, Weston Favell, Norhampton Academy and other schools to!
Lots to look foward too.
Yet there'll definitely be tears and cheers

If you are worried that most of your friends are leaving and you will not have many friends at your new school, they will be many like that and will want to make friends fast.

paper bowls

On Wednesday we amde paper bowls. We had to wrap the bowls in clingfilm then we had cover the whole bowl in paper pulp, let it dry and you have your own paper bowl you can paint the bowl and decorate it however you like.

Footie Fun

In P.E we have been doing football. I have enjoyed playing matches and scoring goals. On Friday I was captain and my team won the first match, drew the second one and lost the last one. We really enjoyed the matches.

Paper Bowls

Last week on Wednesday, we had a visitor in to talk about how to reduce, reuse and recycle litter, paper. nearly all kinds of rubbish. Also after break we all made paper bowls. Firstly we had to bring a bowl, after we had to make, it was like paper mache, we made it by tearing little pieces of paper and then adding warm water and then we left it for 2 days (before the visitor came). Then we put that mache on our bowls (not leaving any holes) BUT before that we put on the plastic foil, finally we left it for few days for it to dry, lastly you have to gently take out the bowl. Here you go, paper bowl.

At school this week we made newspaper bowls in science it was so fun we had to put paper in warter and it all went spugey and when it was dry we put the mush on the bowles we got from home

Macbeth

In English, we are learning about Macbeth, a Shakespearian play. It is the only play that is set in Scotland, and it is a tragedy. We examined the play, and are now very good at it. Mr. Clowes has suggested that we recreate the play in acting. However, we are thinking of doing a very funny and witty version.

Skype

In I.C.T ( information, communication and technology) we have been going on Skype. We have learned how to talk to people over the Internet using Skype. We used video calls and just normal calls. Talking to our friends was fun, and making group calls was even more funner!

But aswell as video chatting with are friends we learned about the dangers about meeting people on Internet who we think we know but don't, also adding people we dont know.

Fairtrade Bunting Record

This school and many other schools in England have been taking part in a Guinness World Record attempt to make the longest ever piece of bunting.
Our target was to beat the largest bunting which was 2.696 metres.
With all of the buntings that schools in England did, we reached our target that was 4,350 metres (thats over two and a half miles!)

Fairtrade Bunting Update

St. Gregory's Primary took part in the Fairtrade Foundation World Record Attempt to make the longest piece of bunting - all Fairtrade decorated of course! Every class in every year group, including Nursery and Reception had a go at making some bunting which we hung up in school for the duration of our 'Fairtrade Fortnight' term.

All key stage 2 bunting was sent to the Fairtrade Foundation as part of their World Record Attempt. The fantastic news is that they achieved their target! The result has been submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records, more on that when the result comes in.

Well done to the whole school!!

From the Fairtrade Steering Group.

Read about it at the Fairtrade Foundation website.

Mad Science

A few weeks ago a man from Mad Science arrived at our school to show us many wonders of science and he gave us leaflets to ask us if we wanted to join the after school club. Click on the link to see the pictures.

Lucy's here!

On Tuesday Lucy came to talk to us and answer are questions about Ghana. She travelled from England to Ghana to find what it's like in a different country. She has helped incredibly with our education in geography and many other subjects .We have seen her in person and we were all exited and pleased to see, Lucy not just from a photo but real life!

Lucy had talked to us about the school she had been working in and how we should appreciate what we have in school because Ghanaian schools ain't as lucky as us; we should not take things for granted. She talked about what her house looked like ,we were all astonished by what we saw and know i know why she asked us to guess what her house looked like (before she explained,) it was not poor and a place with less fancy things it was a big house a lovely big house!

She showed us dresses that the Ghanaian made for they were very lovely and made of fine material they were soo beautiful I wanted Lucy to go back to Ghana and get one for me!

And if you are reading this Lucy thank you for everything I will appreciate my school more!
